Revolutionary new measuring gauge for router tables, table saws and drill presses

• Measures height and distance simultaneously thanks to the offset feet, which when twisted allows the central pin to reach outside the usual tangent of the feet

• Allows precise measurements to be reproduced consistently & accurately

• Perfect companion tool for the Prazi GrooveCenter

2-Axis Depth Gauge - Detailed Description

Revolutionary new measuring gauge for router tables, table saws and drill presses.

The pin is marked in both directions and is made of satin chromed finished brass which makes it safe for carbide router bit or carbide saw blades. One end of the pin is cut off straight, while the other end has a knife edge, which is useful for precisely “aimed” measurements.

To further assist precise set-ups the pin’s diameter is exactly 0.245”, just less then a ¼”. This means it will fit, for example, in between the two cutters of a Tongue Router Bit.

The uniqueness of this tool is found in the innovative way the feet can be twisted. In combination with the offset mounting of the feet, twisting them allows the central pin to reach outside the usual tangent of a the feet.

A second feature is that the tool can be used horizontally, i.e. laid flat on the table surface. Thus, the measuring height of the pin can vary according to the degree of the twist in the feet. In doing so, the user can shoot for an exact point on a router bit, located off the table and still measure the distance to the router fence, thus measuring and /or registering both height and distance simultaneously. Once registered with the 2-Axis Depth Gauge, any such point can be reproduced with precision and ease for a later operation of similar nature.

Two operations where this is particularly useful are the following:

Recording cutter height between paired router bits, such as a Tongue & Groove set. As mentioned above, the pin will fit in between the cutters of the Tongue bit(assuming a ¼” tongue width). Having previously registered the height of the Groove Bit’s cutter, the tongue bit set-up is easy: as soon as the pin slides in between the two cutters unobstructed, the height is correct; and the depth of the fence can be set simultaneously, independently of the ball bearing’s reference.(This procedure applies of course to other paired bits, but also to copy a particular router bit set-up off an already finished piece.
In conjunction with the GrooveCenter, when setting up a Lock Miter Bit. The Lock Miter Bit set-up requires an exact copy of the router fence distance to bit height, at a very precise point on the router bit. The 2-Axis Depth Gauge, thanks to its ability to position its measuring point off the table, does this very easily and accurately.
