Cutter insert socket: The back of the cutter receiving recess is cranked or dovetailed; so that ALL the forces generated through driving the chisel forward are transferred directly from the tip of the insert in-line to the chisel body and safely into the handle via the tang. Although it sounds unlikely the forces actually generated on the cutter retaining screws are relatively low and only really serve to hold the cutter insert into the chisel body place when the chisel is at rest.
